FireEye, a different way to fight malware
The California based FireEye is hoping to change the way we protect data from sophisticated hackers. It trick and direct hackers to phony machines and alert clients of hackers attempts to hack their data. Many governments and companies are embracing the new way to fight hacking. Most of the security programs concentrate on stopping viruses. But the clients such as the US government much more interested in more advanced as well as silent attacks that are taking place over long period of time. Malware can stay dormant in a computer for weeks or months before making it more difficult to detect. However, FireEye uses a method of duplicating software on virtual machines and speed up the detection and fighting process.
Cyber security market is worth about $12 billion a year.
FireEye has close ties to the intelligence community especially to the CIA. This may hinder its ambitious plans for overseas expansion. Currently its software is selling well in Asia, Brazil and Germany. Its close ties with the CIA do not stop company clients that need advanced fighting power. In addition to the US and foreign governments including more than 40 spy agencies, international companies such as Bombardier Aerospace are known FireEye customers.
